Sometimes setting goals can feel like day dreaming. It’s easy to imagine what you want to accomplish or where you’ll be in a year, but it’s harder to make your goals become reality. How can we follow-through on the goals we set? What systems can we build to achieve these goals?
Recently I sat down to a conversation with Sean Hogue on the topic of achieving goals. Sean is one of my favorite voices on productivity online as he writes about designing Smart Systems that help you manage your time and get things done, while acknowledging the responsibilities many of us manage as complex humans.
As a life-long student of productivity systems, Sean has developed his own methods that have helped him to:
Go from high school dropout to an honors graduate.
Sail the world, eventually becoming a ship Captain.
Move into business and rise to senior leadership in less than 5 years while completing his MBA, sitting on 3 non-profit boards, and training for (and winning) a mountain bike racing state championship.
I first met Sean on 𝕏 (Twitter) through his content, and was immediately attracted to his approach because it is so practical for real people with a real life. His book Peaceful Productivity does a great job of outlining these systems. He also has a Time Blocking course that helps one put his process into action. I hope you’ll enjoy our conversation as much as I did!
Together we discuss…
How to avoid abandoning our New Year’s resolutions.
Ways to approach tracking progress.
Tips for staying consistent.
Strategies for setting time on our calendar to work on our goals.
Tools that can help us in this process.
… and more…
